Restoring Independence, One Hand at a Time
Hemi-Hand is developing an independently donnable therapeutic device for patients with spastic hemiparesis, with the goal of widening therapy access, lowering costs, and letting patients rehabilitate on their own terms.
The Challenge
In interviews with patients and clinicians, the same problems came up repeatedly: existing devices are hard to put on without help, costly, and often fail to hold an adequate stretch.
Limited Therapy Time
Therapy provides patients only a fraction of the necessary mobility exercise they require. One observational study found patients receive an average of just 32 functional arm repetitions per session.
High Costs
Existing devices are prohibitively expensive, putting effective rehabilitation out of reach for many.
Rigid Designs
Most products are non-adjusting, unable to accommodate day-to-day variance in muscle contraction levels.
Lack of Independence
Patients cannot don or use current devices without assistance, limiting therapy to supervised sessions.

The Hemi-Hand Solution
Designed from the ground up with patient independence in mind, the Hemi-Hand is designed so that stretching can continue through the day at home, rather than only during supervised clinic visits.
-
Wearable Independence: Designed for complete donning and use without an extra set of hands.
-
Adjustable Stretch: Adjustability for both the thumb and fingers to find the perfect stretch as recovery progresses.
-
Accessibility through Affordability: We stand committed to providing patients an affordable treatment solution. Our goal is to produce a mechanically simple yet functional device which is more affordable than other options on the market.

Help Us Bring the Hemi-Hand to Patients
As a non-profit, we rely on donors and partners to protect this design, refine the prototype, and find an organization able to manufacture it at scale. Every contribution brings us closer to putting this device in the hands of those who need it.
